The terroir

Fosdinovo, where the sea meets the Apennines

The quality of our wines begins here first of all: in the hill, the soil and the climate of Fosdinovo.

Our 5 hectares of vineyard lie on the slope, on a stony, sandy and clay soil rich in natural elements. It is a soil that makes the vine work and gives the wines minerality and finesse.

We are at 350–480 metres above sea level, on the ridge that divides Liguria from Tuscany, at the foot of Fosdinovo castle. The day-night temperature swings and the breezes rising from the nearby Ligurian Sea keep the aromas alive and the acidity in balance.

Podere Lavandaro’s wines have a medium sugar and alcohol content and a good fixed acidity, which lifts their aromas and preserves them over time. It is the signature of the land, more than of the cellar.
